We were pleased to continue our fantastic partnership with Ormiston Horizon Academy and the local community this week by donating surplus wood from our site for reuse.
One of the academy’s site staff and a student visited our site to collect the wood, which we no longer required. Instead of going to waste, the material will now be reused for practical projects, supporting learning while also helping to reduce waste.

This small but meaningful exchange highlights the value of working together as a community and finding sustainable ways to repurpose materials that still have plenty of life left in them. It’s great to see materials we no longer need being put to good use within the local community. Partnerships like this help create positive outcomes for everyone involved, and we’re pleased to play a small part in supporting local education and environmental responsibility.
We’re proud to support Ormiston Horizon Academy and look forward to continuing our positive partnership in the future.

Winter brings colder temperatures, shorter days, and more challenging road conditions. For minibus operators, preparation is essential. A well-maintained vehicle doesn’t just reduce the risk of breakdowns — it helps protect drivers, passengers, and other road users.
This Essential Minibus Safety Guide outlines the key winter checks every operator should carry out to keep their minibus safe, reliable, and compliant throughout the colder months.
Safe tyres = safe passengers
Tyres are critical to safety, particularly in wet, icy, and cold conditions.
The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm, but for winter driving we recommend at least 3mm
Check tyre pressures regularly, as cold weather can cause pressure to drop
Inspect tyres for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear
Remember to check the spare tyre if your vehicle is fitted with one
According to UK vehicle safety guidance, tyres must be correctly inflated and in good condition to remain roadworthy. Poor tyre condition significantly increases stopping distances in winter conditions.

Low fluids = high breakdown risk
Cold weather places extra strain on your vehicle, making fluid checks especially important.
Check engine oil levels and condition
Ensure coolant / anti-freeze is topped up and suitable for low temperatures
Use winter-grade screenwash to prevent freezing
Look for any visible leaks under the vehicle
Maintaining correct fluid levels helps prevent freezing, overheating, and unexpected breakdowns during winter journeys.
Cold weather kills weak batteries
Battery failures are far more common during winter months.
Slow or hesitant engine starts are early warning signs
Batteries over five years old should be tested or replaced
Keep battery terminals clean and free from corrosion
Ensure all connections are secure
A healthy battery ensures reliable starting and supports essential systems such as lights, heating, and safety features.

See clearly. Be seen safely.
Reduced daylight and poor weather make visibility a major safety concern.
Test all exterior lights, including headlights, brake lights, and indicators
Replace faulty bulbs immediately
Clean windows, mirrors, cameras, and lights regularly
Replace worn windscreen wipers to maintain clear vision in rain, sleet, and snow
Good visibility is essential for safe driving and legal compliance.
Clear screens mean safe journeys
Effective heating and demisting are vital for winter safety.
Test cabin heaters and demisters before temperatures drop
Ensure front and rear defrost systems are working correctly
Keep an ice scraper and de-icer in the vehicle at all times
Clear windscreens and windows help prevent accidents and ensure safe, comfortable journeys for passengers.

Be prepared for delays and breakdowns
Even well-maintained vehicles can experience delays in severe weather.
A basic winter kit should include:
Ice scraper, de-icer, and snow brush
High-visibility jacket
Torch and mobile phone charger
Warm blanket
Drinking water
Basic first aid kit
Carrying a winter kit helps protect drivers and passengers if the unexpected happens.
Winter safety is especially important for school minibuses, charity minibuses, and community transport vehicles, where passenger welfare is a legal and moral responsibility.
School minibuses often operate early in the morning and late afternoon, when icy roads and poor visibility are more common
Charity and community minibuses may transport elderly or vulnerable passengers who are more affected by cold conditions
Business and fleet minibuses depend on vehicle reliability to avoid service disruption and unexpected costs
Regular winter checks help ensure minibuses remain safe, compliant, and reliable, regardless of who you are transporting.
Winter preparation is essential for every minibus operator. Regular safety checks and early maintenance can:
Reduce the risk of breakdowns
Prevent costly repairs
Protect drivers, passengers, and other road users
This is particularly important for schools, charities, and organisations operating minibuses, where safety and reliability are critical. Whether you manage a single vehicle or a full fleet, staying on top of winter maintenance helps ensure safe, compliant journeys throughout the colder months.
Following official UK vehicle safety and maintenance guidance, regular winter checks are essential to keep minibuses roadworthy, compliant, and safe in cold conditions.
At Minibus World, we support operators with safe, reliable minibuses and expert guidance to help you stay compliant all year round.
Check early, maintain regularly, and drive safely this winter. 🚐❄️

At Minibus World, we believe Christmas is about more than decorations and festive treats – it’s about coming together to support those who need it most. That’s why we’re proud to participate in Minibus World’s Christmas Jumper Day 2025, raising money for the incredible Dougie Mac.
On Christmas Jumper Day, our team swapped their usual workwear for festive knits, colourful patterns, and plenty of Christmas cheer. From classic reindeer jumpers to eye-catching novelty designs, the day is all about having fun while making a meaningful difference.
Christmas Jumper Day has become a much-loved tradition at Minibus World, bringing smiles across our business and reminding us of the power of community when we come together for a shared cause.
Dougie Mac provides outstanding care and support to children, young people, and adults with life-limiting conditions, as well as vital support for their families. Their compassionate teams make an incredible difference every day, offering comfort, dignity, and care when it matters most.
By taking part in Christmas Jumper Day 2025, we’re helping raise essential funds so Dougie Mac can continue delivering their amazing services within our local community.
We’re incredibly proud to support Dougie Mac and grateful to everyone who took part in Minibus World’s Christmas Jumper Day 2025.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s Chrismtas Jumper Day! 🎄
At Minibus World, we believe that supporting our local community goes far beyond providing reliable transport. It’s about investing in young people, creating opportunities, and building relationships that make a real difference. That’s why we’re proud to work closely with local schools like Ormiston Horizon Academy, offering apprenticeships, work experience, industry insights, and practical support that help students discover their strengths and prepare for the future. Our commitment to education and community partnership is at the heart of what we do, and we’re delighted to share the positive impact this collaboration continues to create.
To highlight the impact of this partnership from the school’s perspective, here’s what Ormiston Horizon Academy had to say:
“At Ormiston Horizon Academy, we are proud to work closely with CVM World, a partnership that has been invaluable in strengthening our community connections. CVM World has provided our Year 10 students with meaningful and practical work experience placements in areas such as Mechanics, Electrics, Paint Spraying, and Coach Building. This support has given our students the opportunity not only to gain hands-on experience but also to return for voluntary placements during the holidays, further enriching their skills and confidence.
In addition, CVM World has supported our Year 8 students through an engaging Industry Day, where a small group explored the company and learned about the wide range of roles available, from shop floor positions to office-based careers.
Our partnership is further strengthened through the team at CVM World, who has generously provided our school with useful resources. From notepads to timber, which have been invaluable to our Design and Technology department. CVM World have also facilitated one-day work placements for some of our more dependent learners, providing them with tailored opportunities to experience the workplace.
We are extremely grateful for the community relationship we have developed with CVM World and hope to continue building and strengthening this partnership in the future. Their ongoing support is helping our students develop practical skills and career insights that will benefit them for years to come.”
We are incredibly proud of the relationship we’ve built with Ormiston Horizon Academy and the opportunities it creates for young people in our community. Supporting students as they explore their skills, interests, and future careers is something we are deeply committed to, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come. With being experts in the school minibus sector, we speak to a lot of schools, we love to help out as much as possible!

At Minibus World we have been specialists in Minibus conversions since 2007. Years of experience has enabled our team to perfect the conversion process, ensuring consistent quality, efficient manufacturing and competitive prices. Anyone can convert a van to a Minibus, but understanding how they have manufactured it is essential to purchasing a long lasting and trouble free vehicle.
When a van or vehicle is converted into a Minibus, in order for it to be road legal it has to be approved. This is based on criteria set by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). For an individual vehicle it requires inspection at an approved testing agency and passing an IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval). At this point it is worth pointing out that an IVA relates to one specific vehicle.
Type Approval refers to a conversion process which has been overseen by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). Once granted the manufacturer can produce multiple vehicles under the same approval. To obtain Type Approval a manufacture not only supplies vehicles for testing, but receives regular audits to check on quality, safety and conformity.
The majority of our Minibuses are manufactured in line with the GB Small Series Type Approval (GBSSTA) which covers up to 250 vehicles per annum. As a result Minibus World hold a Conformity of Production (CoP) issued by the VCA, acknowledging and confirming we manufacture repetitively to the required specification.

Nothing is stopping you buying a van and converting it into a Minibus. However, if there is a problem will the manufacturer still honour the warranty? Will insurance cover be difficult to get? Will the build affect the performance of the base vehicle?
At Minibus World we are a Stellantis Pro-One partner with ‘recommended product’ status. That means not only have the VCA given us Type Approval but the base vehicle manufacturer has also given us a thumbs up. Stellantis manufactures Peugeot, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep.
When you buy a new or used vehicle manufactured by Minibus World it comes with the CVM World Advantage. That is, 12 unique features that set our Minibuses apart from the competition. These include a full three year warranty on new vehicle conversions. Floor to ceiling carpets provide durability, soundproofing and heat insulation. A reflective white roof provides additional insulation and lighting. Colour coded seatbelts and seat piping reflect our customers brand. And so the list goes on.
The CVM Advantage is a sign of quality and each feature has been designed to enhance the Minibus experience.

Some Minibus conversions are bespoke by nature, so may have to be IVA rather than Type Approved. The team at Minibus World are highly skilled at bringing customer visions to life, whether in a new vehicle or adapting an existing one. Over the years we have created one off Minibuses for Schools, Charities, Emergency Services and more. If you can’t see the vehicle you are looking for – rest assured we can build one!
Not all minibus conversions are equal. Type approval, manufacturer approval, conversion warranty, driving licences and conversion quality are all important. If you want a Minibus that lasts and holds onto it’s value, do your homework before you buy. At Minibus World we believe we manufacture the very finest vehicles. Feel free to visit our factory in the heart of Staffordshire to learn more and see for yourself.

Make, Model & Year: 2025 Peugeot Boxer
Number of Seats: 17
Wheelchair Accessible: Yes
Current Mileage: 1000

It was a good price for the spec of vehicle, ability to have up to 4 wheelchair spaces, there was also a good lead time for the vehicle.
We found the price very competitive, and the spec suited our needs. We were able to ask many many questions and got them all answered.
It is very new so no repairs, we have had 2 minor issues which the team have been fantastic at sorting out for us.
Very good, really quick to come back to us and sort issues.

Group transport, mileage varies, we have used this mostly for our community groups including school children, scouts and disabled passenger groups.
Yes, it is beautiful, we love the seats they look really smart. The added safety feature of the belt on the tail lift is really good too. The ability to configure the seating is so helpful to us and really valuable.
The reversing camera is such a good feature, really helpful. The removeable seats are great too.
Perhaps in an ideal world we wouldn’t have chosen an electronic handbrake, but this is obviously a vehicle issue not a conversion issue and I don’t think it qualifies as a bug bear!
Brilliant
Yes most definitely
We had a trip to Grittleton Manor and Beatrice the bus has also been to Dartmoor.

Thanks to Green Community Travel for taking the time to share their experience with Minibus World. Their dedication to serving the community through accessible and inclusive transport is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to have played a part in supporting their vital work. It’s been a pleasure working with such a passionate and community-focused organisation, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.

The question we are asked most often at Minibus World is “Can I Drive a Minibus?” or do I need a special licence? To answer we have written this blog to explain who can drive a Minibus, what licence you may or may not need and any other conditions that may apply.
It sounds a daft question, but to answer ‘can I drive a Minibus’ we have to define what a Minibus is. For the purpose of this blog, at Minibus World our definition is a vehicle that has between 9 and 17 seats (including the driver). That is because anything smaller is typically a people carrier and anything larger requires an additional licence.
The CanDrive Minibus range stands as a testament to innovation, practicality, and a commitment to making your journeys safe and comfortable. Whether a Minibus for School excursions, Community Transport, Care & Nursing Home transport these minibuses are designed to cater to all your needs. What’s more, the CanDrive Minibus range aligns perfectly with UK government regulations that allow you to drive minibuses on a standard B licence.*
Below, we’ll explore the CanDrive Minibus range and how their conformity to UK driving regulations allows you to drive them on a standard car licence.*
The CanDrive Minibus range is a testament to versatility. These vehicles are available in various models, each tailored to answer specific requirements. There’s a CanDrive Minibus to fit most needs, including Wheelchair Accessibility. With a choice of seating capacities and accessibility options, you can accommodate your passengers comfortably while staying well within the bounds of UK driving licence regulations.
You may have heard that to drive a Minibus it has to be under a certain weight. If you’ve seen the term Lightweight Minibus, Maxi, Candrive, they all refer to the weight and set up of the Minibus. So let’s break this down:
These are the weight limits of our Minibus definition, which will make sense when you read the next section.
A standard Category B driving licence enables the holder to drive a vehicle with up to 9 seats and with a weight of less than 3,500kg. A typical example would be a Ford Tourneo or Vauxhall Vivaro.
Now here’s where it gets slightly complicated, so bear with us. To drive a Minibus with 9-17 seats you require a D1 licence. If you passed your driving test before Jan 1st 1997, it’s likely you will automatically have this on your licence (but check). If you passed your test after Jan 1st 1997, in order to drive a minibus without a D1 licence you need to meet the following criteria*:
Most Minibuses are used by schools, charities, social clubs, sports clubs and community transport. Their drivers are part of the staff and as such are not professional drivers.
Number of passengers, purpose of transportation and vehicle weight are the main factors which govern whether you can drive a Minibus.
In most day-to-day non-professional situations you may be able to drive a Minibus without additional qualifications other than a standard driving licence*. So to answer ‘can I drive a Minibus’, yes you can!*
If you intend to drive for profit you will require a PCV and PSV licence and if you intend to recoup your costs from your passengers you will need a Section 19 permit. Many organisations recommend drivers who are not familiar with Minibuses undertake a MIDAS Course (which is optional).
*Please note conditions apply for driving a minibus on a standard B licence. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are legally entitled to drive the vehicle. This is not, and we do not offer legal advice.*
Understanding the weight classifications and limits of a minibus is essential for safe driving, legal compliance, and making the right purchasing decision. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and Carry Capacity are two questions often asked when looking into buying a Minibus. There’s a common misconception that for GVW and Carrying Capacity the Ford Transit in a 17 Seater configuration is the best vehicle on the market. It’s a great choice; but is it the best?
We’ll outline the facts below on a few manufacturers vehicles to help you find a suitable Minibus with the Carrying Capacity/Gross Vehicle Weight you need.
We manufacture our Ford Transit Minibus conversions on the Ford Transit 350 Model.
Van Weights exc driver (*Manufacturer Website):

If you’re considering a carriage capacity of 17, Driver and for example 16 Teenagers. The average weight of Teenage Boy is 62kg and 55kg for a Teenage Girl. 16 Male Teenage passengers, without any bags or equipment weigh 992kg if we add the average weight of a UK adult (Male – 85.1kg Female – 72.8kg) we’ve a running total of at least 1,077.1kg.
The facts paint a cautionary picture, that some individuals may potentially be operating a Minibus illegally as they’ve unknowingly exceeded the GVW.

The Peugeot Boxer we use for our Minibus Conversions.
Van Weights exc driver (*Manufacturer Website):
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
This is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the Minibus, fuel, driver, passengers and cargo.
Unladen Weight (ULW)
Kerb Weight / Unladen Weight (ULW) – is the total weight of the Minibus while not loaded with either passengers or cargo.
Payload
This is the GVW minus the ULW, which gives you a figure of how much weight you can carry in terms of people, fuel and luggage.

Ford Transit 17 Seat Minibus
GVW – 4,600 KG
ULW – 3,113 KG*
Payload – 1,487 KG*
Peugeot Boxer 17 Seat Minibus
GVW – 4,250 KG
ULW – 2,686 KG*
Payload – 1,564 KG*
If you’re interested in a Minibus World minibus, please email sales@minibus-online.co.uk or call 01782 444289 to speak to our friendly sales team.
*Please note the above ULW & Payload weights are approximate and may vary slightly from bus to bus, each bus supplied is weighed individually and labelled with its ULW. Please note conditions apply for driving a minibus on a standard B licence. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are legally entitled to drive the vehicle. This is not legal advice and we do not offer legal advice.*
