The one question we are constantly asked is, Can I Drive a Minibus on a Car Licence?

Well, the answer is yes, many of you can!

With that in mind the Minibus World CanDrive range of minibuses have been specifically designed to allow drivers operating within the Educational or Voluntary sector who hold an ordinary car licence to drive the minibus without the need for a D1 driving licence. All of our minibuses are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet all relevant regulations. New guidance for Electric Minibuses

Guidance has been announced for the driving of Alternative Fuel Vehicles including Electric Minibuses by the government. The regulations stipulate that:
1.1 In 2018, UK law was changed so that the weight limit for Category B driving licence holders driving alternatively-fuelled vehicles could be increased from 3.5 tonnes to 4.25 tonnes.
1.2 The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 2018 (the 2018 Regulations) made changes to the law to allow Category B licence holders to drive an alternatively fuelled vehicle that weighs between 3.5 and 4.25 tonnes, provided it is not driven outside of Great Britain, used for the transportation of goods, is not towing a trailer and the driver has completed a minimum of 5 hours training.

Be Safe and Secure in a Minibus World Minibus

Minibus World Minibuses meet the requirements of GB Small Series Type Approval (GBSSTA), formerly known as National Small Series Type Approval (NSSTA). Where required we also manufacture and test our vehicles against Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA).

A key element of GBSSTA or an IVA is the demanding testing of anchorage systems. Anchorage systems are integral for the safety of passengers. Meeting GBSSTA and IVA regulations gives great confidence that the seat belt anchorage system we use will safely and securely keep the seat in the vehicle and the passenger in the seat. Exactly what you want should you be involved in a vehicle impact. The safety of the individuals onboard the Minibus, makes the anchorage one of the most crucial safety-critical elements in a Minibuses manufacture.

How safe is it?

The stress testing (pull test) we submit our anchorage system to is the equivalent of hanging a 1.5 tonne weight (equivalent to a small car) out of a window! Picturing that, it’s reasonably safe to assume your precious cargo is secure.

How do we know your Minibus is safe?

We exceed the IVA and GBSSTA regulations and our vehicles have been submitted for and directly witnessed by representatives of the UKs Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). The VCA are an executive agency of the Department for Transport (DfT). They have the responsibility of approving and regulating that all road-going vehicles in the UK meet their exacting standards. This includes the car or van you may drive on a daily basis!
