Minibus World Appointed as an Approved Supplier on The Procurement Partnership Minibus Frameworks

Minibus World is proud to announce that we have been successfully appointed as an approved supplier with The Procurement Partnership Limited (TPPL), securing a place on both the Minibus Purchase Framework – Lot 2 and the Minibus Rental Framework – Lot 2.

This achievement has been delivered in partnership with The Procurement Partnership Limited and Commercial Services Group (CSKL), strengthening our position as a trusted provider of compliant and cost-effective minibus solutions for schools, academies, and public sector organisations across the UK.

What Does This Mean?

Being part of these nationally recognised frameworks means customers can now access Minibus World’s minibus services through a procurement route that is fully compliant with public sector regulations. The frameworks are designed to simplify and speed up the purchasing or rental process, removing the need for lengthy tendering while ensuring best value and transparency.

For schools and public sector bodies, this offers several key benefits:

  • A faster and more straightforward procurement process

  • Full compliance with public sector purchasing requirements

  • Access to competitively priced minibus purchase and rental options

  • Expert support from a specialist minibus supplier with nationwide reach

At CVM World, we are committed to helping organisations find the right transport solution for their needs — whether that is purchasing a new or used minibus, or choosing a flexible rental option. Our inclusion on these frameworks reinforces our ongoing dedication to providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective vehicles, backed by knowledgeable advice and aftersales support.

We would like to thank The Procurement Partnership Limited and Commercial Services Group (CSKL) for their support and for welcoming CVM World onto these frameworks. If you would like to learn more about how to purchase or rent a minibus through these frameworks, our team would be happy to help. Please get in touch with CVM World to discuss your requirements and explore the options available.

Section 19 Permit Guidance

At Minibus World, we work closely with organisations across the UK who operate minibuses for community transport, schools, and charities. One of the most common questions we’re asked is about the Section 19 Permit – what it is, who needs one, and how it affects day-to-day minibus use.

This guide will explain everything you need to know about Section 19 Minibus Permits, so you can stay compliant and confident when operating your vehicle.

What Is a Section 19 Permit?

A Section 19 Permit is a special authorisation that allows certain non-profit organisations to operate a minibus without having to hold a full Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operator’s licence.

It’s designed for groups that provide transport for members or service users without running a business for profit. Examples include:

Essentially, if your organisation operates a minibus for social benefit rather than commercial gain, a Section 19 Permit is likely the right route for you.

Who Can Apply for a Section 19 Permit?

Section 19 Permits can be issued to:

To qualify, your organisation must not make a profit from transport activities, and any income generated should go back into supporting your core services.

How Does a Section 19 Permit Work?

The Section 19 Permit replaces the need for a PSV operator’s licence by allowing the organisation to charge for transport on a cost-recovery basis — such as covering fuel, maintenance, or driver costs.

The permit itself must be displayed on the vehicle and can cover one or more minibuses depending on your fleet. Each permit is issued to a specific organisation and is non-transferable.

You can apply for a Section 19 Permit through the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) or a local issuing body, such as a community transport association.

Driving a Minibus Under a Section 19 Permit

Drivers operating under a Section 19 Permit must hold the appropriate driving licence entitlement for the minibus they are driving.

If you’re unsure about what you can legally drive, take a look at our related article —
👉 Can I Drive a Minibus? — which explains everything you need to know about driving licence categories, age limits, and exemptions.

Vehicle Requirements for Section 19 Operations

At Minibus World, we specialise in bespoke minibus conversions that meet the specific needs of Section 19 operators.

From wheelchair-accessible minibuses to 8–17 seat configurations, our vehicles are built to the highest safety and comfort standards — ideal for schools, care organisations, and community transport services.

Every minibus conversion can be tailored to suit accessibility, seating layout, and storage needs while remaining fully compliant with DVSA and UK safety regulations.

How Long Does a Section 19 Permit Last?

A Section 19 Permit typically lasts for up to five years, after which it must be renewed. During that period, it’s essential to ensure that:

Why Choose Minibus World?

At Minibus World, we understand that compliance and reliability are crucial for organisations operating under a Section 19 Permit.

That’s why we offer:
✅ Expert advice on suitable vehicle types for your permit
✅ Custom-built minibus conversions for community and school use
✅ Accessibility and wheelchair-friendly configurations
✅ Nationwide delivery and aftersales support

Our goal is to make owning and operating a compliant minibus as simple and stress-free as possible.

Final Thoughts

Operating under a Section 19 Minibus Permit allows non-profit organisations to provide essential transport services safely and legally. Whether you’re part of a school, charity, or community group, understanding your responsibilities and choosing the right vehicle are key to staying compliant.

Minibus Conversions - Why Quality Counts

At Minibus World we have been specialists in Minibus conversions since 2007. Years of experience has enabled our team to perfect the conversion process, ensuring consistent quality, efficient manufacturing and competitive prices. Anyone can convert a van to a Minibus, but understanding how they have manufactured it is essential to purchasing a long lasting and trouble free vehicle.

Type Approval

When a van or vehicle is converted into a Minibus, in order for it to be road legal it has to be approved. This is based on criteria set by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). For an individual vehicle it requires inspection at an approved testing agency and passing an IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval). At this point it is worth pointing out that an IVA relates to one specific vehicle.

Type Approval refers to a conversion process which has been overseen by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). Once granted the manufacturer can produce multiple vehicles under the same approval. To obtain Type Approval a manufacture not only supplies vehicles for testing, but receives regular audits to check on quality, safety and conformity.

The majority of our Minibuses are manufactured in line with the GB Small Series Type Approval (GBSSTA) which covers up to 250 vehicles per annum. As a result Minibus World hold a Conformity of Production (CoP) issued by the VCA, acknowledging and confirming we manufacture repetitively to the required specification.

Minibus Conversions

Manufacturer Approved

Nothing is stopping you buying a van and converting it into a Minibus. However, if there is a problem will the manufacturer still honour the warranty? Will insurance cover be difficult to get? Will the build affect the performance of the base vehicle?

At Minibus World we are a Stellantis Pro-One partner with ‘recommended product’ status. That means not only have the VCA given us Type Approval but the base vehicle manufacturer has also given us a thumbs up. Stellantis manufactures Peugeot, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep.

The Car Van & Minibus World Advantage

When you buy a new or used vehicle manufactured by Minibus World it comes with the CVM World Advantage. That is, 12 unique features that set our Minibuses apart from the competition. These include a full three year warranty on new vehicle conversions. Floor to ceiling carpets provide durability, soundproofing and heat insulation. A reflective white roof provides additional insulation and lighting. Colour coded seatbelts and seat piping reflect our customers brand. And so the list goes on.

The CVM Advantage is a sign of quality and each feature has been designed to enhance the Minibus experience.

Bespoke Minibus Conversions

Minibus Conversions

Some Minibus conversions are bespoke by nature, so may have to be IVA rather than Type Approved. The team at Minibus World are highly skilled at bringing customer visions to life, whether in a new vehicle or adapting an existing one. Over the years we have created one off Minibuses for Schools, Charities, Emergency Services and more. If you can’t see the vehicle you are looking for – rest assured we can build one!

Conclusion

Not all minibus conversions are equal. Type approval, manufacturer approval, conversion warranty, driving licences and conversion quality are all important. If you want a Minibus that lasts and holds onto it’s value, do your homework before you buy. At Minibus World we believe we manufacture the very finest vehicles. Feel free to visit our factory in the heart of Staffordshire to learn more and see for yourself.

Autoguard Extended Minibus Warranty

Minibus World is pleased to announce we have partnered with Autoguard to offer extended warranties to our customers, both new and old. Whether you have purchased a Minibus from us and the manufacturer warranty is running out. Or you need to add a warranty to a vehicle you didn’t purchase from Minibus World. At Minibus World we can still provide an Autoguard Extended Minibus Warranty.

Developed For Your Minibus

Minibus World and Autoguard has specifically designed an extended warranty just for Minibuses. Because a Minibus is more than a van, different to a car and used for a range of activities – it needs a special type of warranty. Our warranties are designed for vehicles up to 15 years old. Cover can be tailored for not for profit organisations as well as hire and reward.

The partnership with Autoguard is designed to cover Minibuses that fall outside of our standard warranty cover. For new vehicles that is typically a 3 year manufacturer warranty and 3 year conversion warranty. For used vehicles purchased from Minibus World we offer up to 2 years conversion warranty and 1 year mechanical.

Together we’re going places

Why Autoguard?

Minibus World has partnered with Autoguard for a number of reasons:

  1. Quality – Autoguard is a multi-award winning organisation providing vehicle warranties for over 30 years. They have a solid 4+ rating on Trust Pilot and a good reputation in the industry.
  2. Cover Levels – our Minibus warranty pays out up to £5,000 per claim, which should be more than enough to repair most mechanical faults. In addition, Autoguard covers a comprehensive list of mechanical components, ensuring our customers have the right level of protection.
  3. Transparency – from what’s covered to making a claim, customer expectations (in terms of vehicle maintenance) and ease of claiming (telephone or App), Autoguard makes it easy for the customer.

Why Extend My Warranty?

Warranty

Today’s Minibuses are complicated vehicles. Although engineered to a high standard, modern electronics, safety systems and mechanics are expensive to repair should an issue arise. If your Minibus is outside of the new or used warranty supplied when purchased, you are now potentially exposed to a large repair bill should something go wrong.

An Autoguard Extended Minibus Warranty buys both peace of mind and insulation from financial shocks. You can choose from 1-3 years cover, add a number of bespoke options and ultimately rest assured that your Minibus is protected.

Hybrid Minibus Options - Why the Ford Tourneo PHEV is For You

Choosing a vehicle has got more complicated over the last few years. It used to be simple, petrol or diesel. Now you have the option of the traditional ICE (internal combustion engine) and fully electric. Then there are the hybrid minibus options which are HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) or (PHEV) Plug In Hybrid Vehicle. The difference between a HEV is that it charges the battery using the combustion engine alone whereas a PHEV can be plugged in.

Choices, choices, choices!

HEV v PHEV

Is it a simple choice of which one is better? No. Both the HEV and PHEV have different strengths and weaknesses. So let’s outline what they are:

HEV

  • Self charging and requires no external plug. Just drive and fill up with fuel like a normal ICE vehicle.
  • Better fuel efficiency than an ICE vehicle.
  • Cheaper upfront cost than a PHEV.
  • May also satisfy a number of low emissions zones and/or reduce taxation.
Hybrid Minibus Options - HEV
Hybrid Minibus Options - PHEV

PHEV

  • Electric only range – ideal for short commutes.
  • ICE back up for extending range and long journeys.
  • Requires a charging point to maximise efficiency by charging the battery.
  • More expensive than an ICE or HEV.
  • May also satisfy a number of low emissions zones and/or reduce taxation.

Ford Tourneo Plug In Hybrid (PHEV)

Now we have explained the difference between PHEV and HEV we are going to look in depth at the Ford Tourneo PHEV which (in our opinion) is a superb Minibus and ideal for Schools, Private Hire, Community Transport, Airport Shuttle, Charities, Care Homes, Clubs & Societies and more!

Firstly, it is based on the Ford Tourneo Custom, a hugely popular and versatile vehicle. It is powered by a 2.5l petrol engine and supported by a 11.8kWh battery which can provide an electric only range of up to 32 miles (this may vary). Perfect for the school or hospital run, providing cheap and clean motoring.

Next up the Ford Tourneo is highly versatile. It seats up to 9 on three rows of seating. Rows two and three are on adjustable rails so you can remove seats for extra storage or a wheelchair. Alternatively slide along the rails to change legroom or fold seats down to provide a work station and more.

PHEV v Diesel

Is it a simple choice of which one is better or more cost efficient? No. Both the PHEV and Diesel alternatives have different strengths and weaknesses. You’ve already seen the PHEV above, so take a look at the Diesel below:

Diesel

  • Long range and excellent fuel economy for motorway driving.
  • Quick to refuel and no need for charging infrastructure.
  • Generally cheaper upfront than a PHEV.
  • Higher emissions and may be restricted in some low emission zones.
  • Can be more cost-efficient for drivers covering high annual mileages.

One other thing to bear in mind when comparing the PHEV v Diesel, especially on the Ford Tourneo, is the annual tax cost. Click here for more information.

Additional Features

When looking at hybrid minibus options, don’t forget what else the vehicle has to offer outside of the drivetrain. In the case of the Ford Tourneo it is packed full of equipment including, even the lowest specification includes:

  • 13″ SYNC 4 Touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Navigation Pack
  • 5 USB Ports
  • Dual Side Load Doors

Buying From Minibus World

We are biased when it comes to the Ford Tourneo PHEV. We believe it is a fantastic 9 seater Minibus and answers any question that can be asked of it. When you buy, lease or contract hire from Minibus World we cover you with a full warranty if new, comprehensive used warranty if not, we offer maintenance if contract hire. Plus the full back up of a family business that has been manufacturing since 2007.

Community Transport Minibus Grants

Running a community transport service is about more than just getting from A to B, it’s about keeping people connected. Whether you support local residents, run a charity service, or help those with mobility needs, reliable transport can make all the difference. That’s where the Community Transport Minibus Grant comes in, designed to help organisations like yours fund accessible, efficient vehicles such as a new or used vehicle from Minibus World.

With an increasing focus on mobility and the mental health benefits it brings, there are a number of funding grants to support those in rural areas, where bus services have been slashed, or people just need to be supported.

What is a Community Transport Minibus Grant?

Community Transport Minibus Grants are funding opportunities offered by local councils, regional authorities, and national schemes. They aim to help not-for-profit organisations, charities, and social enterprises deliver essential transport services for people who might otherwise struggle to travel. They can be fully or part funded, depending on how they are being offered.

Grants can typically cover part or all the cost of:

  • Purchasing a Minibus
  • Upgrading accessibility (e.g. wheelchair ramps and lifts)
  • Meeting safety standards or emissions targets
  • Supporting operational costs, training, or maintenance
What is a community transport Minibus Grant?

Who Can Apply?

Each grant will have different terms and conditions. So check which community transport grant is most suitable to your organisation. Typically you might be eligible if your organisation:

  • Operates as a charity, social enterprise, CIC or not-for-profit group
  • Provides transport for community benefit (not for commercial gain)
  • Supports vulnerable groups, rural residents, or people with disabilities

Typical Applications Include:

  • Local charities and community groups
  • Schools and academies offering student transport
  • Care providers and social enterprises
  • Faith groups and volunteer networks

How to Apply

The process varies depending on the funding body, but typically requires a written application. This may be quite daunting if you have never completed one before. If possible identify someone in your community who has completed a tender or grant application. Then:

  1. Research local opportunities
Check your county or borough council’s website for “Community Transport Grant” or “Voluntary Transport Funding.” Your Chambers of Commerce may also be able to point you in the right direction. You can also try:
    1. The Community Transport Authority
    2. Grantfinder
    3. The Government Website
  2. Demonstrate local need
Provide clear evidence of how your minibus will benefit your community, for example, reducing isolation or improving accessibility. Hospital or social transportation, school or educational use.
  3. Get costed quotes
Funders will usually ask for at least one official vehicle quote. Minibus World can help by providing detailed, no-obligation quotes for accessible, electric, or diesel minibuses that meet funding criteria. We will provide a full quote and funding pack to support your community transport grant application.
  4. Complete the application
Follow the funder’s guidance closely and attach all required documents, such as your organisation’s accounts, legal details and insurance. It’s always best to complete offline first then upload when you are ready to avoid losing any work completed.
  5. Await approval and ordering your minibus
Once funding is secured, Minibus World can assist with delivery, branding, and any bespoke conversion required for your service.

Top Tips for a Successful Application

Minibus Grants
  • Highlight how your service fills a gap in local transport. Demonstrate both the need and the benefit, be specific.
  • Emphasise inclusivity. This may include wheelchair accessibility, rural outreach, community relations or resident support.
  • Include testimonials or statistics showing community impact (either your own or from similar projects).
  • Ask for support from local councillors or MPs to strengthen your bid. Get your Parish Council or other community groups involved.

How Minibus World Can Help

At Minibus World, we’ve helped countless schools, charities, and community groups secure funding and select the right vehicle for their needs. Whether you need a lightweight, wheelchair accessible Minibus or an eco-friendly electric model, we’ll guide you through every step, from specification to delivery.

If you’re thinking about applying for a Community Transport Minibus Grant, our team can help prepare your quote and advise on suitable vehicle options.

Top Brands for Reliable Used Minibuses

So you’re in the market for a used minibus but not sure where to look? Some of the questions you may ask are, Can I Drive a Minibus? What donor vehicle is best and which convertor does the best job? When you are looking at top brands for reliable used Minibuses there is a wealth of information out there. In this blog we aim to help you (although we are slightly biased, more later) navigate the market.

Choosing the Donor Vehicle

Before a Minibus is built, it starts off as a panel van from a donor manufacturer. Popular makes include Ford, Mercedes, Peugeot and Vauxhall. At CVM World we manufacture our Minibuses from a variety of donor vehicles with whom we have a direct trade relationship with. These include Stellantis Group (Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Vauxhall), Ford and Mercedes.

At Minibus World we believe the top brands for reliable used Minibuses are the ones we have been doing business with for over a decade!

Top Brands for Reliable Used Minibuses

1. Peugeot Boxer

The Peugeot Boxer is a practical, cost-effective and popular choice for schools, charities, and community transport. Known for its spacious interior and fuel-efficient engines, the Boxer is well-suited for both short trips and longer journeys. Easy to maintain and affordable to run, it’s a brand we regularly recommend.

2. Citroën Relay

Sharing much of its engineering with the Boxer, the Citroën Relay offers the same reliability and versatility, but with its own distinctive look and feel. A favourite among organisations seeking value, the Relay is easy to drive and delivers excellent comfort for passengers.

3. Vauxhall Movano

The Vauxhall Movano is another proven performer in the Stellantis family. Renowned for its flexibility and variety of seating layouts, the Movano has long been a top choice for schools and groups needing a dependable, easy-to-handle minibus. With strong aftersales support across the UK, it’s a brand you can rely on.

4. Fiat Ducato

The Fiat Ducato offers strength and dependability in abundance. With robust engines and a practical design, it’s well-suited to those needing a hardworking minibus for regular use. Its wide availability in the UK market makes it a strong contender for anyone looking at a Stellantis built vehicle.

5. Other Trusted Names

While CVM World specialises in Stellantis brands, we also understand that organisations sometimes consider other makes. Vehicles like the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter remain well-known options in the used minibus market, offering their own mix of reliability and comfort. The VW Transporter is another to be considered.

Choosing A Convertor

There are a number of Minibus convertors throughout the UK and not everyone is equal. Here are our top tips when choosing a vehicle convertor.

  • Type Approval – anyone can convert a van to a Minibus, but type approval means the VCA (Vehicle Certification Agency) has overseen the process and signed it off for quality and safety. This can impact on insurance and extended warranty. Minibus World are type approved for our Minibus conversions.
  • Warranty – at Minibus World our new vehicles come with a three-year conversion warranty. Plus, our used vehicles come with up to two years warranty.
  • Quality – at Minibus World our vehicles are built with the ‘CVM Advantage’, 12 unique features that set us apart from the competition. From floor to ceiling carpets which are hard wearing and insulate against sound and heat, colour coded seatbelts and seat piping to complement your brand, insulated and gloss white roof to reflect light, plus many more.
Trusted Advisor
  • Accreditations & Certifications – Minibus World are a Stellantis Pro One Partner, BVRLA and BSI members and FCA regulated. A quality convertor will have similar accreditations.
  • History – Minibus World has been producing quality Minibuses since 2007, so you can rest assured we will be in business should you need support in the future.
  • Preparation – at Minibus World our used vehicles are prepared to leave our factory showroom fresh! This includes a 104 point mechanical check. Full manufacturer service and MOT (if less than 9 months remaining) with no advisories. Exterior paintwork and interior trim is refurbished and repainted where necessary.

Conclusion

When you consider top brands for reliable used Minibuses you must consider both the donor vehicle manufacturer and the Minibus convertor. Do your homework on both before you buy. As with a car, service history and documentation are important, as is the support you receive from the vehicle supplier.

Choosing A Quality Minibus – the CVM World Advantage

Not all Minibuses are manufactured equal, Since 2007 Minibus World has been building high quality vehicles, investing our experience and knowledge to make our Minibuses the very best on the road. We’ve listened to our customers and what they want when choosing a quality Minibus.

The result is the Car Van and Minibus World Advantage, 12 reasons why you should choose a new or used vehicle from Minibus World.

The CVM World Advantage

  1. Type Approved

You are not buying a conversion, you are buying a ‘type approved’ vehicle which shows on the V5. Minibus World are approved by the Vehicle Certification Agency. This ensures quality, resale value and can reduce insurance premiums.

2. Manufacturer Warranty

You receive the full manufacturer’s warranty plus a 3-year warranty for the conversion, for complete confidence in your Minibus. Plus we offer up to 2 years on a used vehicle.

3. Proven Expertise

Over 3,000 vehicles have been built by our expert team. And as a result we are confident our craftmanship is the best there is.

4. Fully Carpeted

From floor to ceiling, complete carpeting is hard wearing, insulates against noise and retains heat. Much better than plastic. Our Minibuses can take a kicking!

5. Fitted Valances

Running across the ceiling of our Minibuses, fitted valances hide cabling for optional extras (CCTV Camera, Speakers etc) and provide a professional finish.

6. Colour Coding

Pin your colours to the mast! Or alternatively pick your Seatbelt and Seat Piping colour for a personal or corporate touch. Build your Minibus to match your brand.

We’re halfway into choosing a quality Minibus, here’s the rest of the CVM Advantage…

7. Insulated Roof

A well-insulated roof reduces condensation, increases soundproofing and retains heat. It’s the little things that count but make a big difference.

8. Sliding Side Windows

Not fixed or hinged, our side windows slide for maximum versatility and ventilation. Cool!

9. 4-Way Hatch

Hopefully never to be used as an escape hatch. But for ventilation when moving or stationary, the 4-way gives great versatility.

10. Dome Storage

Above the cab is a great cubby hole and storage space which many convertors box off. Not us, because when don’t you want extra storage in a Minibus?

11. Leatherette Door Cards

Not just stylish but hard wearing compared to card. Our Minibuses are built to last and add a bit of class.

12. White Roof

A simple trick of the light. Our white roof makes the Minibus feel light and airy, plus it is easy to wipe down and clean.

Conclusion

At Minibus World we know exactly what makes a quality vehicle. From the donor vehicle to the conversion materials and the quality of the craftsmanship. When choosing a quality Minibus, like anything in life, the cheapest may not last the longest.

Diesel vs Electric Minibus - Which is Right for Your Organisation?

If you’re in the market for a new Minibus, one of the first decisions you’ll face is diesel vs electric minibus. The choice is no longer just about fuel type, it’s about balancing range, running costs, environmental impact, and practicality for your journeys.

At Minibus World we will guide you through the pros and cons of each fuel type so you can make the right decision for your school, charity, sports club or business.

Electric Minibus – Clean, Quiet, and Cost-Efficient

As with cars, electric Minibuses are being introduced at a pace. All the major manufacturers now have an electric solution, Ford, Stellantis Group and Mercedes for example. But as with cars, the technology is moving so fast it can be overwhelming. See our dedicated website page for Electric Minibuses.

Best for: Short, local routes and urban transport.

Advantages of an Electric Minibus:

  • Zero tailpipe emissions – perfect for Clean Air Zones, ESG sustainability targets and brand aspirations which show you care about the planet.
  • Lower running costs – electricity is cheaper per mile than diesel, with fewer moving parts to maintain, which reflects in the servicing costs.
  • Smooth and quiet – a more comfortable ride for passengers with no engine noise or jerky gear changes. An electric motor only has one gear, so torque is available at any speed. This means it is the ideal vehicle for nipping in and out of traffic.
Electric Minibus

Points to consider:

  • Range limits – range can still be an issue for long distance. The typical electric Minibus has 200-250 miles of range in real world driving (model dependent) which is more than enough for most – but for longer journeys may require planning.
  • Charging facilities – on site chargers or public charging access is essential. However, the good news is that there are Government grants available to install a charging point.
  • Upfront price – electric Minibuses do carry a higher purchase cost, although offset over time with lower running expenses this may be recouped. It is too early to tell if residual values of electric Minibuses will track those of diesel vehicles.

Diesel Minibus – Reliable and Long-Range

At Minibus World the diesel Minibus has been our best seller for nearly 20 years. As a Stellantis Pro-One Partner our most popular vehicle is the 17 Seat Peugeot Boxer Professional, the choice of schools, charities and community transport. Built for hard work and long journeys, diesel Minibuses continue to be a strong seller in the face of new electric vehicles and government curbs against fossil fuels.

Best for: High-mileage, rural, or long-distance travel.

Advantages:

  • Proven technology – the diesel minibus has been engineered over time, producing a reliable powertrain and gearbox, ensuring years of service.
  • Long range – travel over 400 miles on one tank without refuelling stops. No range anxiety with diesel!
  • Power and performance – ideal for carrying heavy loads or tackling hilly routes. Even fully laden with passengers the new generation of diesel engines are engineered to maximise torque and power.

Points to consider:

  • Emissions restrictions – diesel vehicles face charges or bans in some low-emission and Clean Air Zones.
  • Fuel price volatility – diesel can be more expensive per mile than electricity and price fluctuates across the country and motorway service stations.
  • Maintenance – more moving parts compared to electric models means more frequent servicing and higher charges.

Real World Customer Example:

Don’t just take our word for electric vehicles, take a read below, a real world example from an Electric vehicle customer:

“We had an e-transit converted to a minibus in 2023 and have been operating it since Dec.  People are welcome to see it if they like.  We rarely get above 120miles range but the advantage of the transit is it does charge at 115kW DC which most other vehicles do not. However of most surprise is the Bus Service Operators grant earns us 22p per km which massively offsets the cost of the van which was only £4k greater than the diesel equivalent.  finally you do not need a D1 licence to drive the bus.”

Diesel vs Electric Minibus – Key Questions to Ask

  1. Daily mileage – Do you travel under 150 miles a day, or much more? If under, electric might be your number one choice.
  2. Route type – Urban Clean Air Zones or open motorways? Electric for Clean Air Zones, diesel for motorways.
  3. Facilities – Do you have or can have charging points on site? If yes, electric might be your number one choice.
  4. Budget – Can you manage higher upfront costs for lower long-term expenses? If yes, electric might be your number one choice.

Our Verdict

  • Choose electric if your routes are local, you want to cut emissions, and you can charge overnight.
  • Choose diesel if you run long distances, need proven reliability, or lack charging infrastructure.

At Minibus World, we supply diesel and electric vehicles and can help you decide which is best based on your route, passengers, and budget.
