See their fantastic minibus review below.
Make, Model & Year: 2025 Peugeot Boxer
Number of Seats: 17
Wheelchair Accessible: Yes
Current Mileage: 1000
It was a good price for the spec of vehicle, ability to have up to 4 wheelchair spaces, there was also a good lead time for the vehicle.
We found the price very competitive, and the spec suited our needs. We were able to ask many many questions and got them all answered.
It is very new so no repairs, we have had 2 minor issues which the team have been fantastic at sorting out for us.
Very good, really quick to come back to us and sort issues.
Group transport, mileage varies, we have used this mostly for our community groups including school children, scouts and disabled passenger groups.
Yes, it is beautiful, we love the seats they look really smart. The added safety feature of the belt on the tail lift is really good too. The ability to configure the seating is so helpful to us and really valuable.
The reversing camera is such a good feature, really helpful. The removeable seats are great too.
Perhaps in an ideal world we wouldn’t have chosen an electronic handbrake, but this is obviously a vehicle issue not a conversion issue and I don’t think it qualifies as a bug bear!
Brilliant
Yes most definitely
We had a trip to Grittleton Manor and Beatrice the bus has also been to Dartmoor.
Thanks to Green Community Travel for taking the time to share their experience with Minibus World. Their dedication to serving the community through accessible and inclusive transport is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to have played a part in supporting their vital work. It’s been a pleasure working with such a passionate and community-focused organisation, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
The question we are asked most often at Minibus World is “Can I Drive a Minibus?” or do I need a special licence? To answer we have written this blog to explain who can drive a Minibus, what licence you may or may not need and any other conditions that may apply.
It sounds a daft question, but to answer ‘can I drive a Minibus’ we have to define what a Minibus is. For the purpose of this blog, at Minibus World our definition is a vehicle that has between 9 and 17 seats (including the driver). That is because anything smaller is typically a people carrier and anything larger requires an additional licence.
The CanDrive Minibus range stands as a testament to innovation, practicality, and a commitment to making your journeys safe and comfortable. Whether a Minibus for School excursions, Community Transport, Care & Nursing Home transport these minibuses are designed to cater to all your needs. What’s more, the CanDrive Minibus range aligns perfectly with UK government regulations that allow you to drive minibuses on a standard B licence.*
Below, we’ll explore the CanDrive Minibus range and how their conformity to UK driving regulations allows you to drive them on a standard car licence.*
The CanDrive Minibus range is a testament to versatility. These vehicles are available in various models, each tailored to answer specific requirements. There’s a CanDrive Minibus to fit most needs, including Wheelchair Accessibility. With a choice of seating capacities and accessibility options, you can accommodate your passengers comfortably while staying well within the bounds of UK driving licence regulations.
You may have heard that to drive a Minibus it has to be under a certain weight. If you’ve seen the term Lightweight Minibus, Maxi, Candrive, they all refer to the weight and set up of the Minibus. So let’s break this down:
These are the weight limits of our Minibus definition, which will make sense when you read the next section.
A standard Category B driving licence enables the holder to drive a vehicle with up to 9 seats and with a weight of less than 3,500kg. A typical example would be a Ford Tourneo or Vauxhall Vivaro.
Now here’s where it gets slightly complicated, so bear with us. To drive a Minibus with 9-17 seats you require a D1 licence. If you passed your driving test before Jan 1st 1997, it’s likely you will automatically have this on your licence (but check). If you passed your test after Jan 1st 1997, in order to drive a minibus without a D1 licence you need to meet the following criteria*:
Most Minibuses are used by schools, charities, social clubs, sports clubs and community transport. Their drivers are part of the staff and as such are not professional drivers.
Number of passengers, purpose of transportation and vehicle weight are the main factors which govern whether you can drive a Minibus.
In most day-to-day non-professional situations you may be able to drive a Minibus without additional qualifications other than a standard driving licence*. So to answer ‘can I drive a Minibus’, yes you can!*
If you intend to drive for profit you will require a PCV and PSV licence and if you intend to recoup your costs from your passengers you will need a Section 19 permit. Many organisations recommend drivers who are not familiar with Minibuses undertake a MIDAS Course (which is optional).
*Please note conditions apply for driving a minibus on a standard B licence. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are legally entitled to drive the vehicle. This is not, and we do not offer legal advice.*
Understanding the weight classifications and limits of a minibus is essential for safe driving, legal compliance, and making the right purchasing decision. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and Carry Capacity are two questions often asked when looking into buying a Minibus. There’s a common misconception that for GVW and Carrying Capacity the Ford Transit in a 17 Seater configuration is the best vehicle on the market. It’s a great choice; but is it the best?
We’ll outline the facts below on a few manufacturers vehicles to help you find a suitable Minibus with the Carrying Capacity/Gross Vehicle Weight you need.
We manufacture our Ford Transit Minibus conversions on the Ford Transit 350 Model.
Van Weights exc driver (*Manufacturer Website):
If you’re considering a carriage capacity of 17, Driver and for example 16 Teenagers. The average weight of Teenage Boy is 62kg and 55kg for a Teenage Girl. 16 Male Teenage passengers, without any bags or equipment weigh 992kg if we add the average weight of a UK adult (Male – 85.1kg Female – 72.8kg) we’ve a running total of at least 1,077.1kg.
The facts paint a cautionary picture, that some individuals may potentially be operating a Minibus illegally as they’ve unknowingly exceeded the GVW.
The Peugeot Boxer we use for our Minibus Conversions.
Van Weights exc driver (*Manufacturer Website):
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
This is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the Minibus, fuel, driver, passengers and cargo.
Unladen Weight (ULW)
Kerb Weight / Unladen Weight (ULW) – is the total weight of the Minibus while not loaded with either passengers or cargo.
Payload
This is the GVW minus the ULW, which gives you a figure of how much weight you can carry in terms of people, fuel and luggage.
Ford Transit 17 Seat Minibus
GVW – 4,600 KG
ULW – 3,113 KG*
Payload – 1,487 KG*
Peugeot Boxer 17 Seat Minibus
GVW – 4,250 KG
ULW – 2,686 KG*
Payload – 1,564 KG*
If you’re interested in a Minibus World minibus, please email sales@minibus-online.co.uk or call 01782 444289 to speak to our friendly sales team.
*Please note the above ULW & Payload weights are approximate and may vary slightly from bus to bus, each bus supplied is weighed individually and labelled with its ULW. Please note conditions apply for driving a minibus on a standard B licence. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are legally entitled to drive the vehicle. This is not legal advice and we do not offer legal advice.*
How to operate your minibus side step is a common question we get asked every day, especially with the variety of options available. At Minibus World, we offer three types of side steps to suit different needs: a manual side step for straightforward use, an automatic sidestep for added convenience, and a twin fold-out sidestep designed for greater assisted access. Each type has its own benefits, and knowing how to use them correctly ensures safer, entering for all passengers.
1. Simply press the pedal located to the right of the side step to release it.
2. Board all passengers once the side step is ready.
3. To stow the side step, push tread in with a slight upward force with toes on the red line until it’s safely in place underneath the minibus.
1. Click the switch located to the right of the steering wheel to turn on the automatic side step.
2. Simply open the side door and the step will come out from underneath the minibus.
3. Once finished boarding, just close the side door and the step will return to underneath the bus.
1. To fold out the step, hold both left and right grab poles, slightly lift and pull out the side step.
2. Board passengers once the step is safely folded out.
3. To stow the fold out step away, simply hold both left and right grab poles and lift the step up until it’s safely back into place inside the minibus.
Understanding how to operate your minibus side step is essential for ensuring passenger safety and convenience. Whether you’re transporting children, elderly passengers, or individuals with mobility challenges, mastering the correct use of the Stayco side step is key to the operation of your minibus.

Minibus World, based in Staffordshire, have over 35 years experience of providing new, nearly new and used Minibuses. Our customers enjoy a professional service from their initial enquiry through to driving their vehicle. They are more than happy to provide testimonials and we have provided a selection below.
“We recently received some very positive feedback from Carol Hawkins the School Business Manager at Falkland Primary School regarding their Peugeot Boxer CanDrive Flexi 17 Seat Minibus: Good afternoon Sue, we are delighted with our minibus thank you.
In answer to your questions, I found your company on the internet after a Google search and was impressed with the ease of getting in touch with you and the simplicity of your quote. The demonstrator was also outstanding in his understanding of school requirements and I felt very comfortable with him. The whole process was very straightforward and everyone was really helpful.
We currently run two minibuses with our new one. I am not sure if we will replace the old one when it is retired but I would definitely come to you again if we do.
Thanks to you all for making this a positive experience.
Kind regards,”
– Carol Hawkins, School Business Manager, Falkland Primary School
“Sincere thanks to everyone involved in the delivery of the mini bus. The kids (and teachers) are so excited and it will be put to very good use! The process was very easy and all staff were very helpful.”
– Carrie Burns, Glencryan School
All the athletes that came with me today are absolutely thrilled with the new vehicle and I can imagine that all the other athletes will also be buzzing when they get to see it. All the parents and other volunteers that have helped us to raise the funds over the last few years will be as thrilled and excited when they also get to see it and I can not thank you enough for that. I think it will be a nightmare choosing who gets to travel in our new bus or a hire bus when we have to use one to go to galas, so again thank you for that. 😀
All I can say is on behalf of myself, our coaching team and our 70 athletes is a big thank you to yourself and all your colleagues for making our vehicle exchange such a fantastic experience. I will definitely be recommending you to other clubs we speak to whilst attending gala events.
– David Johnson, The Cheshire Penguins Swimming Club
We ordered a wheelchair-accessible minibus for our charity, EnhanceAble, which supports people with disabilities to access our day centre.
From the very first call all of the staff that we dealt with were very helpful and understanding of our needs.
Even after the bus was delivered to us they still helped out enabling us to get the tax class changed and the bus on the road as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help.
– Toni Rowland, EnhanceAble
I approached several companies when researching into the cost and availability of the seventeen-seater lightweight minibus. Minibus World were by far the most helpful. They responded quickly and were able to put my mind at rest concerning the appropriate laws.
When it arrived the delivery driver was very helpful thoroughly going through the facilities and demonstrating how to remove and replace the seating. Despite the horrible weather (it arrived in a hailstorm) he competently went through all of the checks.
The process from start to finish was smoothly conducted and delivered all that was promised.
We are already enjoying our new bus!
– Marjorie Mallon, Wellesbourne Primary School
We ordered a Peugeot Boxer CanDrive Maxi 17 Seater Minibus for Loggerheads Parish Council. We supply transport for community groups throughout the 4 wards that our Parish covers in Staffordshire.
The Minibus World team were extremely helpful in deciding which would be best for us and our needs. The communication we had with throughout the process made leasing our minibus really simple.
Their understanding of the Parish’s requirements including all legislation was fantastic, making us feel like a very valued customer.
We would not hesitate in recommending Minibus World to other Community Transport providers.
– Karen Watkins, Loggerheads Parish Council
Having contacted Minibus World about a replacement wheelchair accessible vehicle for family use after looking at various companies’ websites we found them very helpful with any questions about detail that we asked. Not having had the opportunity to visit in person because of being at a considerable distance from them, we nevertheless placed our order and we very pleased with the finish of the vehicle internally; we have seen some conversions which look like a van with a bit of carpet stuck around the sides. We didn’t see the vehicle until it was delivered so there was a certain anxiety in case it wasn’t quite as expected but we are very satisfied. All our contact was via the website and email/telephone so we are even happier with the finished result. Mark was very helpful and patient with us and we would have no hesitation in ordering again if and when we have a need.
– Geoffery M, Londonderry
Our charity for people with Disabilities has been impressed with the service we have had from Minibus World. The minibus has been converted precisely to our specifications, the finish is superb, the seats are comfortable and the trim is very attractive. The bus runs well and we think it was very good value for money. Thank you for your excellent advice and service.
– Jan S, Charity Sector, Bedfordshire
Our experience of working with Minibus World has been exemplary. I have been so impressed with the expertise and experience of the team; their understanding of schools – and the needs in this case, of a very small, rural first school have been first class. The whole process from beginning to end has been so easy. Lee Connor, in particular, has been a wonderful support – nothing was ever a bother or too much trouble, and we had several changes once the design process began! Thank you so much to everyone – we are all delighted. The children in particular just want to know when we are all going out in it – that must mean success! Many thanks once again to everyone!
– Claire M, First School, Northumberland
After much debate on which company to go with, your resume outshone the rest hence our approach to Minibus World. On behalf of the trustee committee I would like to thank you for a job well done, they were very impressed with the vehicle that you provided to the specification requested. Your personal approach to our requirements was very professional and your company should be congratulated on its customer service and approach to all aspects of the client’s needs. All questions were answered fully and requests fulfilled without any barriers. Well done. We would have no reservations in recommending your company to other organisations. Thank you once again for a job well done.
– Jim F, Community Transport, Rutland
We purchased a minibus for our charity from Minibus World. We found the team, Lee in particular very professional, friendly and very informative on the best way forward to us. He was extremely helpful in organising the paperwork and signage for the bus. We will definitely be going back to Minibus World for our next vehicle and would absolutely recommend this Company to other businesses.
– Fiona L, Charity Sector, Birmingham
Our Community Transport is a non-profit making charity, providing a wheelchair converted minibus that collects elderly and disabled people to bring to a day centre based in Wiltshire. We faced a situation where we were losing the use of our minibus, as the support of Local Authority funding was no longer available due to Government cuts. We had to find a replacement quickly if we were to continue with this essential service to the local community. Minibus World came to the rescue with an extremely competitive price. More importantly they completed the conversion to a new bus within an agreed timescale in order that there was no break in the service we provide. We found them professional in all aspects of our dealings with them and knowledgeable in suggesting suitable layouts and equipment needed for our particular requirements. We would certainly use them again and recommend them as a company to deal with.
– Ron H, Community Transport, Wiltshire
From the moment I met Mark at a trade show, I felt that he knew what he was talking about and I felt comfortable to place an order with him. He spent time discussing and explaining the options that we could order, providing helpful suggestions and then keeping me informed at all times of the progress of the transformation of the van to our gleaming minibus. It was delivered to us by a driver who did not really know all the ins and outs but Mark was able to help via telephone. We have had one small problem with the minibus but Mark has ensured that everything was made easy for us to get it fixed. We are very grateful for all of Mark’s guidance and interest in our project and would recommend Minibus-online to other care homes looking to source a minibus.
– Sandra J, Nursing Home, Somerset
I recently bought a Ford Transit Minibus from Minibus World. I would like to take this opportunity to say the service I received from Minibus World was outstanding. I have been very, very impressed by the level of customer service I have received, as they helped me to choose and design the correct Minibus to suit my needs and requirements, they also contacted my local authorities on several occasions to check that the work they were carrying out was meeting their rules and regulations. I would have no doubt in my mind to use or recommend Minibus World again.
– Graeme L, Taxi Driver, Edinburgh
Minibus World are competitively priced and delivered to schedule as promised. I am extremely pleased with the sales service I received from Lee who was patient with all my questions and very prompt with helpful replies. He did not ‘oversell’ and listened to our requirements, adapting to suit our needs and suggest improvements to our minibus design. Staff and students are thrilled with how smart the minibus looks both inside and out. I am also impressed with the follow up service received to ensure that we were happy with everything. I would certainly recommend Minibus World to anyone looking to buy a minibus.
– Alison B, High School, Chester
The one question we are constantly asked is, Can I Drive a Minibus on a Car Licence?
Well, the answer is yes, many of you can!*
With that in mind, the Minibus World CanDrive Minibus range has been specifically designed for drivers within the Educational or voluntary sectors. Potentially allowing drivers who hold an ordinary car licence to drive the minibus without the need for a D1 driving licence, if they meet certain requirements (see the Government website for more information)*. (*conditions apply, it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are legally entitled to drive the vehicle).
We provide standard and wheelchair accessible minibuses to many sectors including Schools, Care, Charity, Community Transport and Voluntary. All of our minibuses are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet all relevant regulations. You can be sure of a professional service and high quality vehicle that is built in-house to your own individual requirements. In fact, we hold a Level 3 Convertor status from Stellantis which is the highest possible level, plus a Pro-One recommended product from Stellantis, you really can’t get better than that.
Guidance has been announced for the driving of Alternative Fuel Vehicles including Electric Minibuses by the government. The regulations stipulate that:
As a result from June 10th 2025, the standard weight (for zero emissions vehicles only) has been raised to 4,250kg. For vehicles including specialist equipment to carry disabled passengers this increases to 5,000kg. The changes to the legislation are to be found here.
“CanDrive Maxi” symbolises spaciousness and adaptability. This L4 H2-sized minibus is equipped with a 15ft ramp, making it suitable for occasional wheelchair access while ensuring convenience for all passengers.
“CanDrive EasyOn” signifies thoughtful accessibility and convenience. The wheelchair electric lift and manual side step ensure that the minibus provides smooth and effortless boarding and disembarking.
“CanDrive Light” highlights accessibility and convenience. This minibus weighs 3.5 tons, making it lightweight yet versatile.
*Please note: Conditions apply, it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are legally entitled to drive the vehicle.
Minibus World Minibuses meet the requirements of GB Small Series Type Approval (GBSSTA), formerly known as National Small Series Type Approval (NSSTA). Where required we also manufacture and test our vehicles against Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA).
A key element of GBSSTA or an IVA is the demanding testing of anchorage systems. Anchorage systems are integral for the safety of passengers. Meeting GBSSTA and IVA regulations gives great confidence that the seat belt anchorage system we use will safely and securely keep the seat in the vehicle and the passenger in the seat. Exactly what you want should you be involved in a vehicle impact. The safety of the individuals onboard the Minibus, makes the anchorage one of the most crucial safety-critical elements in a Minibuses manufacture.
How Safe Is It?
The stress testing (pull test) we submit our anchorage system to is the equivalent of hanging a 1.5 tonne weight (equivalent to a small car) out of a window! Picturing that, it’s reasonably safe to assume your precious cargo is secure.
Minibus World take a personal approach. We’re transparent about the process of buying a Minibus, keeping our customers informed on lead times and ensuring the Minibus they invest in, is the vehicle they need. We’re proud to say that we retain our customers and have a significant volume of customers referred.
Our minibuses are manufactured to various Type Approval regulations such as GBSSTA, IVA or (Certificate of initial fitness) COIF and are happy to listen and advise you on your own particular requirements.
If you have any queries or concerns regarding vehicle safety, Type Approval or IVA / GBSSTA or any other aspect of purchasing, owning, financing, leasing a Minibus we’d welcome your call.

Peugeot Approved Minibuses are where our Stellantis journey began. We knew our Peugeot Boxer Minibuses presented exceptional value and quality and we wanted to showcase this to Peugeot UK.
After submitting a Minibus World Peugeot Boxer for testing and it creating such a positive impression it was submitted for approval to The Technical department at Peugeot Head Office in Europe with a recommendation to approve.
We were confident our Minibuses would again be approved and our confidence was rightly placed. After vetting the documentation from Peugeot UK we received approval from Peugeots HO in Paris gaining Peugeot Motor Company Approval (validation by PSA).
Investing in a Minibus World manufacturer approved and pro-one recommended minibus gives you the confidence our Minibus will exceed your expectations.
